When I was younger I knew Eric Clapton was awesome but I always had a hard time reconciling why and how. Was it the speed between notes…no. Famous for having the nickname Slowhand. I found it all very puzzling. Then I think one day I finally figured it out. Unlike most guitarist who riff in a scale and then get good and riff in scales all over the fretboard Eric was very different. He was and still is very deliberate. Especially in concerts where he controls his set and songs. Blues jams he participates in I often find him admiring other musicians more than he is interested in playing himself.

If you only watch one Eric Clapton video in your life this is the one to see. Clapton never got the credit he deserved for playing with his eyes closed. Lit cigarette and every note bent to perfection, amazing backup singers, great state of his voice, looks like he’s using an SM58.

The best intro to Layla I have been able to find. Complete mastery. Every guitarists fantasy to hold the attention of both himself and his audience. Gotta shout out to the Clapton fans at the show here tonight – they’re devotion and enthusiasm is both joyful and hilariously captured in a time machine of 80s vhs. maybe 90s vhs

A raw bootleg of Layla with mediocre audio quality but the energetic performance with fellow slouches Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page is worth all the distortion in the world.
